Tomorrow, our beloved puppy turns two!
When we decided to get a dog, we wanted something big – a man’s dog. A dog that would make me feel safe when I’m home alone, and that Steve wouldn’t mind being seen walking. We also wanted a dog our kids could grow up with, and a bigger dog is better equipped to handle the rough love that they can dish out.
We decided pretty quickly on a German Shepherd, and we got her from an amazing breeder just outside of Kansas City (we went the breeder route because the breed, when not bred correctly, can have temperament issues and a higher risk of hip and elbow dysplasia).
She stole our hearts before we even got her home.
And she’s made us laugh from day one, too.
Don’t those eyes just melt your heart?
She did give us some trouble, as puppies are wont to do. There were a few months there right after we got her that she had some digestive problems. Sometimes those problems would wake us up at two in the morning with a big stinky mess and a very dirty puppy – good training for when we become parents! But we got her on a good diet and things got sorted out. We’re glad those dark days are gone.
She’s always loved a good car ride, no matter where we end up, and she’s great company when I have to go on a long trip alone.
Her constant energy keeps us on our feet, which is a very good thing.
She even helps me blog – though often she’s more of a distraction than a help.
Though she’s cost us some sleep, a little sanity, and not a small number of socks, we’re so glad she’s part of our family!
