Off to the Races!

This past weekend my parents, my sister, and her two sons came to visit! They were our first house guests, so it was a pretty exciting occasion. And having company gave me that extra boost I needed to unpack the last few boxes that were cluttering up our spare room (hallelujah!).

Our house is pretty small, but we all managed to fit pretty well. And let me tell you, there’s nothing like having a three-year-old and a one-year-old visit to show you how un-childproof your house is. Thankfully, we made it through the weekend without anything breaking.

photo churchilldowns2_zps1a8a36c5.pngWe live about a mile from the Downs, but we hadn’t gotten to visit there yet, so it was nice to finally get to go. We watched a race and toured the Kentucky Derby Museum.

He won the Preakness Stakes a few weeks ago, which is the second leg of the Triple Crown, and the Belmont is next weekend, so we could have a Triple Crown winner this year! If he wins, he’ll be the first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed won in 1978.

photo churchilldowns8_zps977f546c.pngThat horse in the front there (number 5) was the winner! She’s the one that Steve picked to win.

photo churchilldowns9_zps8669772e.pngI picked this horse because I thought she was beautifully built, but apparently I’m not a good judge of racehorses because she came in dead last. See how she’s all alone? That’s because she was lengths behind the other horses. Oh well.

Having family in town was really nice, especially since I rarely get to see my sister and my nephews. Hopefully it was fun enough for them that they’ll come back to visit – maybe for the Derby next year? I can only hope!
